Your stomach makes a hormone called ghrelin. This hormone tells your brain that you are hungry. When you lose weight by dieting, your ghrelin levels go up, and so your brain feels hungrier and hungrier. But after some forms of gastric bypass surgery, the ghrelin levels go down, even after you lose a lot of weight. Those people do not feel nearly so hungry, and so it is easier for them to keep their weight off. I don’t think this is a perfect solution for everyone who is overweight.</p>
